Repair and Restore
Wherever possible, think about repurposing or repairing rather than replacing.
It’s nice to know that you can get your household items (especially furniture) repaired or restored. Many Men’s Sheds have members who are willing and able to repair that wobbly wheel on your shopping cart or refinish that coffee table.
Sheds are a great place to get some help for those odd jobs where you don’t have the skills or the right tool but the job isn’t big enough for a tradesman. They’ll often take on these odd jobs in exchange for some baked goods or a donation to the Shed.
So next time, before you throw it away, ask your local Shed if they can perhaps fix it or if its something they might be able to repurpose into something else.
If your local Men’s Shed can’t help you fix it, why not try your local Repair Café?
Repair Cafés are free meet-ups where volunteers offer their time, tools and skills to help repair anything from clothes, bicycles, electrical appliances, furniture and more.
