Leave a Gift in Your Will
Your gift can help Sheds provide opportunities for improved wellbeing and health for men and support local communities.
Men’s Sheds of WA are grateful to all the special people who choose to support the men shed movement through a bequest (a gift or Legacy made in your Will).
Your bequest will contribute directly to continuing and expanding our activities, helping Men’s Sheds of WA have an everlasting impact on the health future of West Australian men.
Every dollar really does make a difference to us, and you can rest knowing you’ve made a positive difference to your community after you’re gone.
We will also include your name (or family name) on our website as a recognition of your contribution to the Men’s Sheds movement in WA.
You have various options when it comes to leaving a gift in your will to ensure your estate is shared how you wish.
Pecuniary bequest. A fixed amount specified in your Will. This gift is in the form of a specified amount e.g. $10,000.
Percentage of estate (also known as a fractional amount). If you wish to divide your estate among a number of people or organisations. This method ensures that inflation doesn’t erode the value of your gift over time.
Residuary bequest. The remaining value of an estate when all other bequests to family and friends have been made and liabilities have been paid out.
Reversionary bequest. Allows a surviving partner to benefit from your estate during his or her lifetime and then for the balance of the estate to be paid to Men’s Sheds of WA on their death.
Here is the specific wording recommended for including a bequest to Men’s Sheds of WA in your Will.
Percentage of estate (donate a percentage)
“I give to Men’s Sheds of WA (ABN 67 979 314 821), for its general purposes, free of all duties ________ % of my residuary estate for which an authorised receipt from the Men’s Sheds of WA will be a sufficient discharge for the executor or trustee.”
Residuary bequest (donate the remaining value of your estate)
“I give to the Men’s Sheds of WA (ABN 67 979 314 821), for its general purposes, free of all duties the residue of my estate for which an authorised receipt from the Men’s Sheds of WA will be a sufficient discharge for the executor or trustee.”
Pecuniary bequest (donate a specific sum)
“I give to the Men’s Sheds of WA (ABN 67 979 314 821), for its general purposes, free of all duties the sum of $__________ for which an authorised receipt from Men’s Sheds of WA will be a sufficient discharge for the executor or trustee.”
We appreciate that this can be a sensitive issue; please email the team or give us a call if you would like to discuss a bequest or a donation.
If you are comfortable to do so, please let us know that you have included Men’s Sheds of WA in your will. This gives us the chance to say thank you, keep you up to date with news and stories from our organisation and involve you and your family in relevant special events throughout the year.
We will also record your intentions expressed during your lifetime; this will help to support your choices, should they ever be questioned after your passing.
If you are making, or amending your will, we recommend that you seek advice from the Public Trustee (or a solicitor) to ensure that the wording of your Will reflects your exact wishes. The Public Trustee is part of the WA Government and offers a significantly subsidised service for people with a concession card. Public Trustee (www.wa.gov.au)
