Inclusive Thriving Sheds
We are pleased to invite all Men’s Sheds throughout WA, stakeholders and community groups to our state Conference. With the theme of ‘Inclusive Thriving Sheds’, the Conference will challenge delegates to leverage the diversity of the volunteering sector and harness its power to address some of the most significant issues faced by the community. Delegates will be inspired to explore the opportunities and challenges that we face in creating a sustainable WA men’s shed movement into the future.

‘Social isolation is a greater health threat than smoking, poor diet and lack of exercise.’ Professor Haslam will be expanding on the health effects of social contact and how men’s sheds can have an active role in combatting social isolation in our communities.
Alex is Professor of Social and Organizational Psychology and Australian Laureate Fellow at the University of Queensland.
His research focuses on the study of group and identity processes in organizational, social, and health contexts. He has received a range of major awards from scientific bodies in Australia, the US, UK and Europe for contributions to Social, Organizational, Political and Health Psychology.
Together with colleagues, Alex has written and edited 15 books and published over 280 peer-reviewed articles in these areas. His most recent books are The New Psychology of Health: Unlocking the Social Cure (with Catherine Haslam, Jolanda Jetten, Tegan Cruwys and Genvieve Dingle, Routledge, 2018), The New Psychology of Leadership: Identity, Influence and Power (2nd Ed. with Stephen Reicher & Michael Platow, Psychology Press, 2020), and The New Psychology of Sport: The Social Identity Approach (with Katrien Fransen & Filip Boen, Sage, 2020).

The Conference will feature dynamic presentations and workshops, involving a diverse group of professional speakers and facilitators. Our focus this year Inclusive, Thriving Sheds; showcasing how inclusiveness will lead to stronger and more vibrant community organisations.

TRAVEL SUBSIDY FOR REGIONAL SHEDS
Men’s Sheds of WA via Lotterywest will provide a subsidy to support Sheds from remote areas to attend the conference.
Delegates from these remote areas: Kimberley, Pilbara, Gascoyne, Kalgoorlie and Esperance regions can apply for a 75% subsidy, maximum value of $1,500 per Shed, towards travel and accommodation costs to attend the Conference. Sheds in these regions will need to provide a quote for travel / accommodation costs.
Sheds that are 200kms+ from the venue can apply for reimbursement of up to $330.
