President’s Message 2020

Dear Shedders and friends of Men’s Sheds of WA

On reading my message from this time last year, I said ‘what a very busy year where much has been achieved but has uncovered a heap of work still to be done!’. Little did I know what 2020 would hold.

I am sure that you will agree with me when I say that the Men’s Sheds of WA team has worked incredibly hard throughout the year. They have strived to ensure that your Sheds are supported and have been able to get the right information to you and your members at the right time. To support Sheds through the COVID lockdown we waived our membership fee for the year. We have been overwhelmed to see that many Shed’s decided to contribute the equivalent of their fee as a donation to Men’s Sheds of WA. We are very grateful and humbled by your support.

The Board and I have felt a great sense of pride in the Men’s Sheds movement in WA this year. The fortitude of WA’s Sheds in the face of adversity and their resilience to bounce back has been admirable. Throughout the COVID lockdown and in the following months the community spirit that Sheds have shown, has been exemplar. Sheds not only supported their own members but rallied around to look after their fellow community members too.

The Board has noticed that new Sheds continue to appear in WA, almost monthly! believe that this is largely due to the fact that the Men’s Sheds movement has proved incredibly successful in helping to rebuild community spirit and strengthen local communities.

Exciting times for the Men’s Sheds of WA Board as we have four new members joining the Board.

I do however want to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing Board members, Michael Woodhouse and Russell Candy. Both have been great supporters of our organisation and of the Men’s Sheds movement. We wish them all the best for their future endeavours.

To everyone who has invited the Men’s Sheds of WA Board, Volunteers and Officers to take part in your events and milestones at your Sheds, we feel grateful to be welcomed. We are not always able to attend, but we do appreciate the invitations and will endeavour to attend where we can.

Trevor Taylor,
President
